Abstract:
On October 24, 2018, the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge, a bridge and tunnel project connecting Hong Kong, Zhuhai and Macao in China, was officially put into operation. This 55km sea crossing bridge, which took nine years to complete, has a design service life of 120 years and can withstand a magnitude 8 earthquake, a magnitude 16 typhoon, a 300000 ton impact and a 300 year flood tide at the mouth of the Pearl River. The Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge adopts the construction form of "bridge, island and tunnel in a trinity". It is composed of three navigable bridges, one submarine tunnel, four artificial islands and connecting bridges and tunnels, non navigable continuous beam bridges in deep and shallow water areas, and land links between Hong Kong, Zhuhai and Macao. It is a super bridge with the largest span, longest length and longest immersed tube tunnel that has been built in the world.
