On the cover

The report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China clearly pointed out that it is necessary to develop the marine economy, protect the marine ecological environment, and strengthen the marine industry of China. The openness of the ocean and the particularity of the marine environment determine that the marine security situation is extremely complex and severe. Developing marine equipment and technologies, realizing independence and controllability in key areas, and creating China’s advantages over scientific and technological innovation and international competition are the urgent needs and strategic support for safeguarding China’s maritime security and interests. The consulting project of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, “Strategic Research on Major Basic Technologies and Innovation Capacity Building of Marine Equipment”, analyzes the new opportunities and challenges faced by the development of China’s marine technologies and industry. It also studies the key basic technologies and industrial development bottlenecks in marine equipment development in China, explores the development trends of significant equipment technologies and industry, and proposes paths for constructing the technological innovation system of marine equipment, improving the innovation capacity of the system, and achieving high-quality industrial development in the context of domestic and international dual circulation. The consulting project of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, “Strategic Research on Seabed Geological Disaster Risk Response in the Qiongdongnan Basin”, takes the Qiongdongnan Basin as the research area and focuses on deep-sea development and geological disaster risk prevention and control. It sorts out the scientific problems and key technologies, formulates response plans and implementation paths, and puts forward suggestions and measures for the prevention and mitigation of geological disasters under the influence of natural and human engineering activities.
